For a Relay Board cable, you can move both heat shrink pieces to the center of the wire length, and then twisting the center of the wire with a few twists to hold the heat shrink in place, so that it does not fall off the wire or run down while soldering the connection.

Jul 13, · Yes, There are hand held tach/dwell meters that will work for 1, 2, or 3 cylinders. You might have seen meters made for 6 and 8 cylinders with instructions on how to use to read a 4 cyl engine. Similar compensation can be made for other numbers of cylinders.
My symptoms are no power to speak of below rpm. At that point turbo boost occurs and power comes up, though no where near what it should be. The engine revs smoothly but runs out of steam before rpm. I’m left to decide if the problem is the AMM or the O2 sensor. If your B FT throws oil around like mine, the throttle body can easily get crudded up and cause problems exactly as you described. All these were fine, just a dirty throttle body caused the problem.

Jul 29, · Best Answer: You forgot to mention strobe, well in points and condener ingnition, you first need to know the timing, how many degrees before top dead center, and the reccommended dwell, attach the pos to the coil and ground the other lead, mark the timing mark on the harmonic balancer with white out or chalk, dissconnect the vacuum advance, advance the throttle to to rpm, adjust Status: Resolved.

If the timing is too far advanced, the car will ping, and also suffer from pre-ignition, which is the engine continuing to sputter and run on after you turn off the key.
For a short term fix, keep the car in “drive” when you turn it off while you are looking for the cause. Don’t let it cough and carry on for any longer than you need to. Now you need to figure out what is going on. In setting the “base” timing you need to remove the vacuum from the distributor. You can plug up the vacuum line with a golf tee, or small bolt. Set the timing to spec.

This is sometimes caused by low battery voltage. Delete the codes, and disconnect the DME for 15 minutes. Then reconnect, let the car idle for five minutes, and then drive over 30 mph for more than five minutes. Recheck the codes – if it occurs again, the DME is faulty and should be replaced. Disconnect the DME for 15 minutes, reconnect, and then simulate a fault code, like unplugging the air flow sensor or idle actuator.
If the code reoccurs, then you will need to replace the DME. This code indicates that a test was performed, but no pulse was registered. Check the wiring and knock sensors. When you are finished reading the codes, you can reset the computer and clear them all out. Make sure that the last code has occurred, and then press down on the gas pedal for more than 10 seconds.
